Laura Barrero
Laura Barrero, UCLA Communication Studies ’14, works as a corporate Recruiter for WarnerMedia. Prior to Warner, Laura was a Recruiter for EY as well as NBCUniversal. She is working on an online Master’s degree in Human Resources from Pepperdine Graziadio Business School.
Laura has volunteered with ULAA in the past as a Scholarship Committee member, Membership Board chair, and Orgullosos Mentor.
In her free time, Laura likes to play film scores on the piano, hang out with her fur baby Duke, & partner Michael (also a Latino Bruin!)
Jesse Ixtlilxochitl Coronado
Jesse Ixtlilxochitl Coronado was a member of a gang and his future looked bleak. He joined a catholic seminary and later the U.S. Army. These two institutions helped Jesse turn his life around. After the army, he entered UCLA and went on to become active on campus and earn a BA in Latin American Studies and an MBA in Management and Finance. Jesse went on to a successful career at Citibank and with the U.S. Department of State.
Liz Saldivar
Liz Saldivar possesses a wealth of experience in both the public and private sector developing and managing strategic government and community outreach programs.
Currently, Liz serves as the Director of External Affairs for the California Department of Justice, one of the largest Attorney Generals’ office in the country. In this capacity, Liz provides strategic counsel to the Attorney General and oversees the statewide external affairs team and the public inquiry unit.
Recently, Liz was appointed to serve on the Los Angeles City Redistricting Commission.
A native of Los Angeles, Liz earned her bachelors’ degree in political science at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Dr. Laura C. Romero is Founder and President of her consulting firm, Brillante Strategies, where she advises people and organizations on professional development and public affairs. Brillante Strategies is based on her extensive visionary career, especially her UCLA mentoring doctoral dissertation and experience managing an innovative award-winning national mentoring program. In addition to Laura’s mentoring expertise, her stellar networking skills have contributed to her career and entrepreneurial success working with diverse constituencies and industries.
Prior to Brillante Strategies, Dr. Romero worked at a world class university, a flag ship television station, as well as various nonprofits. During her UCLA career, Laura promoted the University’s mission of research, teaching and public service by working with elected/government officials, corporate and community leaders, university administrators, faculty, staff, students, and alumni. She worked in the Office of Government & Community Relations, the Higher Education Research Institute’s Cooperative Institutional Research Program, the Extramural Programs and Opportunities Center, and taught the new “Civic Engagement in Los Angeles” seminar. Before UCLA, Romero worked as Acting Director of Public Affairs at Univision Los Angeles and National Mentoring Coordinator of the award-winning Communities In Schools, Inc./Univision Mentoring Initiative. Romero also worked at Child 360 focusing on corporate relations
Laura C. Romero has the honor of serving as a member of the California State Summer School for the Arts Board of Trustees, LA’s BEST Advisory Board, Public Media Group of Southern California Community Council, Executive Coach for the Loyola Marymount University Executive MBA Program, and served as Vice President of the UCLA Latino Alumni Association Board of Directors. Dr. Romero received her B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. from UCLA.
